The 2024 PGMs Industry Day

2024 PGMs Industry Day

For Producers, Investors & Users of PGMs

Wednesday, 10 April 2024
Country Club Johannesburg, Auckland Park

08h00-17h45

Resources 4 Africa was please to host the 7th edition of its annual PGMs Industry Day, on 10th April 2024 in Johannesburg. This was a high-level strategic gathering that brought together all the major players to tackle the critical industry issues in a series of frank and open discussions.

CEOs, industry leaders and other key stakeholders discussed the current opportunities and challenges facing the PGMs sector in South Africa and internationally. Chaired by Bernard Swanepoel, the topics that were discussed included:

• The global outlook for PGMs
• The role of PGMs in a clean energy future
• PGMs producers’ views on operating under challenging market conditions
• Opportunities and risks for smaller and future PGMs players
• The global outlook for BEVS and FCEVs and the implications for PGMs
• Applications that will see demand growth for PGMs
• Investors’ views of the PGMs industry
• The role of PGMs recycling in a circular economy
• And more...

We were delighted to welcome all the CEOs from the major PGMs producers, as well as several others who are either in the process of opening new mines or who are involved in processing PGMs tailings and/or recycled PGMs.

Despite the current basket price, there was a general consensus that we have reached the bottom of the cycle and that prices are set to recover next year. The outlook for future demand was also positive on the whole, given that BEV forecasts have been pared down and sentiment re. other applications such as jewellery and industrial was bullish.

Collaboration was a key theme of the day and there was agreement that the PGMs industry needs to work with all external stakeholders to ensure its long-term future. We look forward to many more engaging conversations on the PGMs industry and its potential role going forward.
